The MIME media type for JSON text is application/json so strictly speaking not all JSON values are valid for this MIME type. It might be that implementers of services that accepts or returns JSON may be more liberal and accept and return JSON values, so we have chosen to follow this more liberal approach to what JSON is and a JSON variable may therefore contain a JSON value and the JSON view will be able to display such values.

When data is loaded from a URL and the MIME-type is application/json then the loaded JSON is shown in the JSON Page View. If the this is not the case then it is possible to specify that the data indeed represent JSON by setting the Page Content Type to JSON on the Load Page step. This method may also be used when the data is not loaded from a source where a MIME-type is available, e.g. in Create Page step action.
